Management of chronic wounds

Study:

Topical application of an amino acid dressing, Vulnamin, in the management of chronic wounds.

Design:

  • 160 patients with non-infected cutaneous chronic wounds
  • Treatment for a maximum of 6 weeks with Vulnamin cream or powder.

Measurements:

  • Before treatment, wound size was assessed using digital planimetry.

  • Wound area measurements repeated at 2 (T14) and 6 (T42) weeks after starting treatment.

70% of patients (112) had positive outcomes (>40% reduction in ulcer size)

Significant reduction in the mean wound area after 2 (T14) and 6 (T42) weeks compared with baseline was seen
